I am an artist born to a rock-star rocket scientist who was the son of an entrepreneur. It’s an interesting combination. I started with photography when I was five years old. I immediately became the family photographer, but was always attracted to scenic landscapes. At eight, my grandfather taught me how to sell and the neighborhood became my client base. By my 18th birthday, I had experience selling door-to-door, building my first radio station, creating, producing and selling a product; producing an off-broadway musical and mastering nearly every position in a full-service restaurant. For three out of my four high school years, I was president of my very active church youth group and every year since junior high school, I volunteered my entire summer at residential Boy Scout camps. Being the oldest of fifteen children, I really needed to get away from the house from time to time.
My adult life has been a similar experience. By the time I reach 40, three months from now :-O …I will have managed restaurants ranging from “mom & pop” to Fortune 500; held leadership positions in a Fortune 200 insurance company; raised venture capital for a business buyout; been published several times; had my photographs featured in art galleries; marked 20 years of Internet experience; …and started a family.
It is because of my family that I chose not to continue on the crazy uphill climb in the insurance industry. Being gone for 70-80 hours per week was not a good thing for my kids, so calling upon years of child rearing experience gained while growing up in a house where there was ALWAYS a baby; I decided to start a new business…one that I could do from home…a business that would allow me to have a real positive impact on my children’s lives; help other people; and be able to make the dollars to support my household.
Mathias Marketing is the culmination of all the skills I have gained over my life. I have been marketing…selling, my entire life. I know what it’s like being a struggling small business owner. I also know how to craft concise, effective messages that speak directly to the potential customer I wish to attract.
